Chinese Premier Mr. Li Qiang met with Chairman of the National Assembly of Viet Nam Mr. Tran Thanh Man at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on the afternoon of 12 October 2026, discussing bilateral relations, economic cooperation, legislative exchanges and coordination on regional and international issues. The meeting focused on implementing understandings reached by the two countries’ top leaders and advancing the China-Viet Nam community with a shared future.

Mr. Li Qiang said that under the strategic guidance of General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and General Secretary and President of Viet Nam To Lam, relations between the two countries had continued to develop. He noted that the leaders of the two Parties and countries had met in Beijing in April 2026, providing direction for further bilateral engagement.

China was ready to work with Viet Nam as “comrades plus brothers”, Mr. Li said, to maintain traditional friendship, enhance mutual trust and expand mutually beneficial cooperation. He added that closer ties would benefit both peoples and contribute to regional and global stability and prosperity.

On economic relations, Mr. Li called for closer alignment of development strategies and a greater role for mechanisms such as the Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation. He highlighted opportunities to improve trade and economic cooperation, particularly in connectivity, artificial intelligence, clean energy and the digital economy.

Mr. Li also called for the successful organisation of the China-Viet Nam Tourism Cooperation Year and deeper people-to-people exchanges in medicine, education and youth affairs. He said the two countries should enhance communication and coordination through multilateral frameworks, including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), China-ASEAN cooperation and Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, to address shared challenges and protect common interests.

Mr. Tran Thanh Man congratulated China on its economic and social development and scientific and technological advances. He said Viet Nam regarded China as a foreign policy priority and strategic choice and remained committed to the one-China policy.

Mr. Tran said Viet Nam would maintain exchanges at all levels, enhance political trust and strategic coordination, and advance practical cooperation in trade, investment, connectivity, artificial intelligence and agriculture. He also expressed the National Assembly of Viet Nam’s support for Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law and its readiness to exchange governance experience with China and support bilateral cooperation.
