Kazakhstan and Thailand discussed bilateral cooperation and preparations for the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations during a meeting in Bangkok between Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Thailand, Margulan Baimukhan, and Urasa Mongkolnavin, Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle Eastern and African Affairs at Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting reviewed opportunities to advance practical cooperation, coordinate bilateral activities and maintain regular political dialogue ahead of the anniversary in 2027.

The discussions followed Kazakhstan’s participation in the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, held in Bangkok from 12 to 18 October 2026. The Kazakh delegation attended the meetings and conducted bilateral engagements during its stay in the Thai capital.

During the meeting, Ambassador Baimukhan expressed appreciation to the Thai authorities for organising the meetings and facilitating the participation of the Kazakh delegation. He acknowledged the coordination provided by Thai government agencies and the favourable conditions that enabled the delegation to participate in the programme and hold bilateral meetings.

Urasa Mongkolnavin thanked the Kazakh delegation for its participation in the annual meetings and highlighted the importance of the engagements for bilateral relations. She also expressed Thailand’s readiness to continue close coordination with Kazakhstan and advance practical cooperation between the two countries.

The officials reviewed the current state and future prospects of Kazakhstan–Thailand relations, with particular attention to preparations for joint events, bilateral visits and initiatives planned for 2027. The year will mark 35 years since Kazakhstan and Thailand established diplomatic relations.

Transport and logistics featured among the priority areas discussed, including opportunities to utilise the potential of the Middle Corridor. The two sides also considered digitalisation, tourism development and the establishment of direct air links as areas for further engagement.

Other topics included cooperation in education, healthcare and culture, as well as academic exchanges and consular protection for citizens. The discussions covered international and regional cooperation, with both sides expressing interest in sustaining regular political dialogue and supporting each other’s initiatives.

The meeting highlighted the range of areas under consideration as Kazakhstan and Thailand prepare for the 2027 anniversary of their diplomatic relations, with both sides focusing on continued engagement and practical cooperation.
