National Day reception underscores stronger Singapore–Türkiye ties, expanding economic cooperation and shared opportunities for engagement with ASEAN.
Ms Nomita Dhar, Editor-in-Chief of IN Diplomacy, attended Türkiye’s 103rd Republic Day celebration in Singapore on 29 October 2026, with Ms Gan Siow Huang, Singapore’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Trade and Industry, as guest of honour at a reception hosted by H.E. Sadık Arslan, Ambassador of Türkiye to Singapore. Attended by diplomats, government officials and business leaders, the celebration reaffirmed the two countries’ growing partnership in trade, investment, connectivity and regional cooperation.

In his welcome address, Ambassador Arslan reflected on the founding of the Turkish Republic in 1923 under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the country’s journey towards modernisation and international engagement.
He highlighted the steady development of Singapore–Türkiye relations, strengthened through high-level exchanges, growing commercial ties and closer people-to-people connections. The Ambassador also emphasised Türkiye’s strategic position connecting Europe and Asia, and Singapore’s importance as a gateway to Southeast Asia.
The growing aviation links between the two countries, alongside opportunities in trade, investment and tourism, were among the areas highlighted as contributing to stronger bilateral engagement.
From Bilateral Friendship to Regional Cooperation

Delivering Singapore’s congratulatory remarks, Ms Gan Siow Huang acknowledged the progress made in bilateral relations and expressed confidence in their continued development.
“The friendship between Singapore and Türkiye has come a long way. And I’m confident that there is much more that Singapore and Türkiye can accomplish together, both bilaterally and multilaterally.”
The two countries have developed a broad-based partnership encompassing trade, investment, aviation and diplomatic cooperation. The Singapore–Türkiye Free Trade Agreement has provided an important framework for economic engagement, while regular exchanges have strengthened mutual understanding and opened new avenues for collaboration.
Ms Gan also highlighted Türkiye’s engagement with ASEAN and the opportunities for practical cooperation between the two regions.
“We look forward to working with Türkiye to translate the dialogue partnership into tangible outcomes and benefits for businesses and our peoples.”
Her remarks underscored the potential for Singapore and Türkiye to build on their respective strengths as international hubs, facilitating greater connectivity between Southeast Asia, Europe and the wider region.

A Partnership Looking Ahead
The reception also recognised the role of sustained diplomatic engagement in strengthening the bilateral relationship.
Ms Gan paid tribute to the efforts of the Turkish diplomatic mission in Singapore, stating:
“I’d like to thank Ambassador Arslan and his team at the Turkish Embassy for their dedication to strengthening this bilateral relationship.”
With both countries sharing an interest in open trade, international connectivity and regional cooperation, the relationship continues to offer opportunities for businesses and institutions to deepen their engagement.
The National Day celebration reflected not only Türkiye’s republican heritage but also the importance of partnerships built on mutual respect, economic cooperation and longstanding friendship.

Concluding her address, Ms Gan extended her congratulations to the government and people of Türkiye on the country’s 103rd Republic Day.
“May the friendship between Singapore and Türkiye grow ever stronger as our countries continue to enjoy peace, progress and prosperity in the years ahead.”
As Türkiye enters its 104th year as a republic, its relationship with Singapore stands as an example of how geographical distance can be bridged through sustained diplomatic dialogue, growing economic ties and a shared commitment to cooperation.
