Singapore’s highest environmental honor, the President’s Award for the Environment (PAE) 2023, recognized outstanding contributions to sustainability.
President Tharman Shanmugaratnam presented the President’s Award for the Environment (PAE) 2023 to Er. Lee Chuan Seng, Mr. Tan Guan Rui Jacob, National University of Singapore, and Keppel Corporation at the Istana on 10 October 2023.
The PAE, Singapore’s highest environmental accolade, celebrates individuals, educational institutions, and organizations that have demonstrated significant dedication to environmental sustainability in Singapore. It acknowledges sustained efforts across the People, Private, and Public sectors, aiming to inspire broader action towards environmental challenges.
A total of 61 nominations were received this year, encompassing individuals, educational institutions, and organizations. Among the recipients, Er. Lee Chuan Seng and Mr. Tan Guan Rui Jacob received awards in the Individual category, while the National University of Singapore and Keppel Corporation were honored in the Educational Institution and Organization categories respectively.
The awards ceremony dinner embraced sustainability with a ‘farm to table’ menu sourced from local farms, aligning with Singapore’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
President Tharman Shanmugaratnam expressed, “The environmental challenges we face are interconnected…today’s award winners exemplify innovation, bold initiatives, and collective will.”
Er. Lee Chuan Seng emphasized the importance of setting ambitious sustainability goals, while Mr. Tan Guan Rui Jacob highlighted the role of education in nurturing environmentally conscious citizens. Professor Tan Eng Chye of NUS reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to sustainable development, and Mr. Danny Teoh of Keppel Corporation stressed their dedication to addressing climate and environmental challenges.
