H.E. Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Ambassador of Thailand to Singapore, meets with H.E. Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore, reaffirming bilateral ties and discussing regional cooperation.
Singapore, 9 May 2024 – H.E. Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Ambassador of Thailand to Singapore, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore, marking an important diplomatic engagement upon her assumption of duty.
During the meeting, both sides underscored the warm and longstanding relations between Thailand and Singapore, dating back to before the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1965. They highlighted the robust cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the economic and defense sectors, emphasizing the Civil Service Exchange Programme (CSEP) as a pivotal mechanism of bilateral collaboration. Notably, Thailand is set to host the 14th CSEP meeting in Bangkok in June 2024, with H.E. Dr. Balakrishnan scheduled to attend.
In anticipation of the 60th anniversary of Thailand-Singapore diplomatic relations in 2025, both parties expressed their commitment to enhancing high-level exchanges and commemorations. Discussions also touched upon regional issues, including the situation in Myanmar, ASEAN integration and unity, and future-oriented regional cooperation initiatives such as the ASEAN Power Grid and the linkage of real-time payment systems.
