On 17 September 2024, the Chinese Embassy hosted a reception attended by Singapore’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, commemorating 75 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Singapore, 17 September 2024 – The Chinese Embassy in Singapore held a national day reception to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The event was attended by nearly 800 guests, including Singapore’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, and Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and National Development Sim Ann, who delivered a speech on behalf of the Singapore Government. The reception brought together members of Parliament, government officials, representatives from the local business community, academia, media, and culture, as well as members of the diplomatic corps and Chinese enterprises.
Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed a range of cultural performances and activities. These included a recitation of poems about the Mid-Autumn Festival, a traditional Chinese instrumental performance, and a presentation of the dance drama “A Dream of Red Mansions.” Attendees also learned about traditional mooncake-making techniques and experienced Chinese tea art, immersing themselves in the rich cultural heritage of China. The event was a celebration not only of China’s achievements but also of the close and growing ties between China and Singapore.
In his remarks, Chinese Ambassador Cao Zhongming highlighted the positive trajectory of China-Singapore relations, emphasizing the strong development momentum between the two countries. He expressed optimism for the future, noting that under the framework of an all-round, high-quality, future-oriented partnership, both nations are working towards higher goals and stronger cooperation in various fields. The evening ended on a hopeful note, with well wishes for China’s continued prosperity and a bright future for China-Singapore friendship.
