The 23rd ASEAN Senior Law Officials Meeting (ASLOM) took place on 10-11 October 2024, focusing on legal cooperation and harmonisation of trade laws among ASEAN member states.

The 23rd ASEAN Senior Law Officials Meeting (ASLOM) was held on 10-11 October 2024 in Singapore, chaired by Ms. Sarala K. Subramaniam, Director-General (International & Advisory) of the Ministry of Law Singapore. This meeting followed the 11th ASLOM Working Group on the ASEAN Extradition Treaty and the 13th ASLOM Working Group on Examining the Modalities for the Harmonisation of the Trade Laws of ASEAN Member States, which took place from 7-9 October 2024.

Following the 23rd ASLOM, the 3rd ASLOM-Japan Consultation convened, co-chaired by Ms. Subramaniam and Mr. Tsutsumi Yoshiyuki, Assistant Vice Minister of Justice from Japan. This consultation focused on the progress of implementing the ASEAN-Japan Work Plan on Law and Justice. During the discussions, officials reviewed various initiatives under ASEAN and the G7, as well as future activities planned for the successful execution of the Work Plan.

The ASLOM plays a pivotal role in enhancing legal cooperation among ASEAN member states, facilitating discussions on key legal matters, and promoting collaborative initiatives. This year’s meetings set a strong foundation for ongoing cooperation and harmonisation of laws, which is essential for regional integration and stability.
