Strengthening bilateral relations was the focus as Agustina Hermanto, Deputy Chairperson of Commission E of the Jakarta Regional Council (DPRD DKI), hosted Yang Kai Ting, Second Secretary (Political) from the Singapore Embassy. The meeting explored key areas of cooperation, including education, health, infrastructure, and waste management between Jakarta and Singapore.

“We discussed various issues, such as education, health, infrastructure, flooding, and bilateral relations. Hopefully, future agreements can be reached and mutually advocated for between Jakarta and Singapore,” said Agustina, popularly known as Tina Toon.

Tina highlighted the growing number of Jakarta’s students pursuing higher education in Singapore and emphasized the need for deeper educational collaboration. “We hope for mutual benefits. While many of our students study in Singapore, we also hope Singapore can offer additional scholarships for Jakarta’s talented youth,” she stated.

She also praised scholarships provided by the National University of Singapore (NUS), which enable graduates to contribute directly to Jakarta. “This collaboration can serve as a vital bridge for strengthening ties between Singapore and Indonesia, particularly Jakarta,” she added.

Yang Kai Ting expressed appreciation for the warm reception by DPRD DKI Jakarta. “Indonesia and Singapore are close partners in economics, politics, and culture. Today, we discussed ways to enhance cooperation, especially in education, research, culture, and trade,” she remarked.

The meeting marks a promising step forward in fostering sustainable development and strategic collaboration between the two regions, with education and trade as key areas of focus.
