
ASEAN and Pakistan reaffirmed their commitment to closer cooperation at a high-level meeting in Jakarta.
Jakarta, 6 February 2025 – ASEAN and Pakistan reinforced their commitment to strengthening their partnership during the 8th Meeting of the ASEAN-Pakistan Joint Sectoral Cooperation Committee, held at the ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta.
The meeting reviewed the progress of the ASEAN-Pakistan Sectoral Dialogue Partnership: Practical Cooperation Areas (PCA) 2024-2028, noting significant advancements in trade and investment, business-to-business linkages, science and technology, media, and human resource development. Both sides acknowledged the potential for further collaboration and agreed to explore new opportunities for mutual benefit.
ASEAN encouraged Pakistan to support key regional initiatives, including the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP), the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025 (MPAC), and the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) Work Plan IV. The meeting also discussed strengthening cooperation in security, digital economy, food security, infrastructure development, renewable energy, and climate change.
Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, H.E. San Lwin, and Ambassador of Pakistan to ASEAN, H.E. Ameer Khurram Rathore, co-chaired the meeting. Representatives from ASEAN member states attended, along with Timor-Leste as an observer. The meeting also reviewed Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship priorities for 2025 and ongoing regional sustainability efforts.
