Sixty-three companies selected to enhance corporate sustainability through mentorship and collaboration.
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – On 16 February 2025, The Saudi Ministry of Economy and Planning has announced a significant milestone in its ‘Sustainability Champions’ program, with 63 companies from various industries across the Kingdom selected to participate. This initiative, first launched in April 2024 during the World Economic Forum Special Meeting on Global Collaboration, Growth, and Energy for Development in Riyadh, aims to foster corporate sustainability through mentorship and collaboration.
Under the program, established companies recognized for their sustainable practices, termed ‘Champions,’ will mentor three other businesses each, referred to as ‘Future Champions.’ This mentorship structure is designed to create a ripple effect, promoting the adoption of environmentally friendly practices throughout Saudi Arabia’s corporate landscape. The program also focuses on building local expertise in sustainability reporting, providing companies with the necessary tools to monitor and improve their environmental performance.
Nineteen prominent companies have committed to the program, including Saudi Aramco, SABIC, STC, ACWA Power, Zain, and the National Bank of Saudi Arabia. These Champions will share their expertise to help Future Champions accelerate the adoption of sustainable practices, drive innovation, and foster impactful collaborations across key sectors.
Marco Arcelli, CEO of ACWA Power, highlighted the rapid progress in the region’s sustainability efforts, stating, “Saudi and UAE have the most ambitious decarbonization programs in the world. There is a speed and dimension you don’t see much elsewhere.” He attributed this advancement to strong leadership with a clear vision, accessible and affordable renewable energy sources, and a focus on sustainability in key projects.
This collaborative approach aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, emphasizing the Kingdom’s commitment to advancing sustainability through joint efforts between leading companies and emerging businesses. The ‘Sustainability Champions’ program is poised to play a pivotal role in transforming Saudi Arabia’s corporate sustainability landscape, setting a benchmark for environmental responsibility and innovation.
