Singapore, 20 February 2025 – Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information and the Ministry of Health, Dr Janil Puthucheary, inspected the 62nd Specialist Cadet Graduation Parade at Pasir Laba Camp. A total of 977 cadets graduated as Specialists and Military Experts of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), comprising 767 from the Singapore Army, 75 from the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), 30 from the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF), and 105 from the Digital and Intelligence Service (DIS).

In his address, Dr Janil highlighted the significance of 2025, marking both Singapore’s 60th year of independence and the 60th anniversary of the SAF. Reflecting on the evolution of Singapore’s defence forces, he stated, “We started with barely more than a thousand men, two infantry battalions, two wooden boats, and no air force. From there, we have built up the SAF, just as we have built up Singapore.” He underscored the SAF’s vital role in safeguarding the nation, adapting to new challenges, and defending Singapore’s sovereignty.
Dr Janil also stressed the importance of Total Defence and the SAF’s commitment to enhancing its operational capabilities in an evolving security landscape. He outlined investments in realistic training facilities and advancements in both conventional and hybrid warfare capabilities, equipping service personnel to navigate complex modern threats. The SAF’s operational readiness was further demonstrated through its participation in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts, including Singapore’s latest delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Addressing the graduands, Dr Janil emphasised their critical role as leaders in ensuring a capable and ready SAF. He urged them to lead with foresight, adaptability, and empathy, balancing operational demands with the well-being of their teams. “We need capable leaders in the SAF inspiring our people, rallying them to the common cause of defending our homeland,” he remarked.
The graduation parade marked the completion of a rigorous 22-week Specialist Cadet Course, where cadets underwent intensive training to hone their expertise. The newly commissioned Specialists and Military Experts will now take on leadership, training, and staff roles across the SAF. The event was attended by senior SAF commanders, as well as the families and friends of the graduands, celebrating this significant milestone in their military journey.
