The Embassy of Japan in Singapore hosted a grand reception at The Ritz-Carlton to celebrate the birthday of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito, strengthening diplomatic ties and reflecting on a year of bilateral cooperation.

Singapore, 27 February 2025 – The Embassy of Japan in Singapore, under the leadership of H.E. Mr. Ishikawa Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan, hosted a grand Emperor’s Birthday Reception at The Ritz-Carlton to celebrate the 65th birthday of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito. This prestigious event brought together local dignitaries, government officials, business leaders, and members of the diplomatic community, reaffirming the strong bilateral relations between Japan and Singapore, with Josephine Teo, Minister for Digital Development and Information at the Ministry of Digital Development and Information, as the Guest of Honour.

In his speech, Ambassador Ishikawa reflected on a year of significant diplomatic milestones, including leadership transitions in both countries. He noted that Prime Minister Lawrence Wong took office in May, while Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba assumed leadership in Japan in October. Both leaders met twice last autumn during international conferences, where they reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.

During the evening, guests enjoyed a showcase of Japanese culture, traditional performances, and authentic Japanese cuisine, symbolising the deep cultural and economic ties between Japan and Singapore. The event also served as a platform to celebrate Singapore’s 60th anniversary of independence, with Ambassador Ishikawa extending his warm congratulations.

The Emperor’s Birthday Reception remains a significant annual occasion, reflecting the enduring diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties between Japan and Singapore.
