Filipino choirs earn top honours at prestigious regional competition hosted for the first time in Singapore.
SINGAPORE — The Philippine Embassy in Singapore has extended its warmest congratulations to Sola Gratia Chorale and its conductor, Mr Cyril Punay, for winning the Champion title at the 4th Asia Chorale Prix, held on 24 July 2025 at the Victoria Concert Hall in Singapore.
Sola Gratia Chorale’s success follows its previous triumph as overall champion of the 8th Singapore International Choral Festival in 2024, demonstrating the group’s continued excellence in vocal performance.
The Embassy also commended the University of Mindanao Chorale and its conductor, Mr Timothy Paul Atencio, for their powerful performance and contribution to representing the Philippines on the regional choral stage.
The 4th Asia Chorale Prix brought together five outstanding choral groups from Asia: two from the Philippines, two from the Republic of Korea (Cheorwon Boys and Girls Choir, and Korea Choir), and one from Indonesia (Vocalista Harmonic Choir Isi Yogyakarta). The ensembles competed before an esteemed panel of judges comprising choral experts from Singapore (Ms Ai Hooi Lim), Indonesia (Mr Tommyanto Kandisaputra), Malaysia (Ms Susanna Saw), South Korea (Mr Hee Churl Kim), Belgium (Mr Luc Anthonis), Latvia (Mr Māris Sirmais), South Africa (Mr Michael Barrett), Portugal (Mr Paulo Lourenço) and Norway (Ms Tove Ramlo-Ystad).
This year marked the first time Singapore has hosted the Asia Chorale Prix. Philippine Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Joyleen E. Santos and Cultural Officer Rosellie L. Bantay attended the event to celebrate this significant Filipino victory and to show their support for the participating choristers.
