Ministers Chan Chun Sing and Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin reaffirm bilateral cooperation, highlighting shared values and future military collaboration.
Singapore’s Minister for Defence, Mr Chan Chun Sing, met with Indonesian Defence Minister Mr Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin in Jakarta on 5 August 2025, as part of a two-day official visit to Indonesia aimed at strengthening bilateral defence cooperation.
The meeting, held at the Indonesian Ministry of Defence (KEMHAN), began with Mr Chan reviewing a Guard of Honour contingent, followed by bilateral discussions. Both Ministers reaffirmed the deep and long-standing defence relationship between Singapore and Indonesia. Key topics included ongoing efforts to co-develop joint training facilities in Kalimantan, Baturaja, and the Siabu Air Weapons Range, which are expected to enhance military cooperation and operational readiness.
The Ministers also addressed regional geopolitical developments and stressed the importance of maintaining open dialogue and close collaboration in response to growing global uncertainties.
In a separate engagement, Mr Chan held a dialogue session with around 250 emerging Indonesian leaders at the National Resilience Institute (LEMHANNAS). He emphasised the shared values, historical ties, and mutual interests between Singapore and Indonesia, referencing Exercise Eagle Indopura—Singapore’s first bilateral military exercise, established with Indonesia in 1974—as a symbol of enduring defence collaboration.

Mr Chan also met with Dr Ace Hasan Syadzily, Governor of LEMHANNAS, where both parties discussed enhancing bilateral understanding through increased institutional exchanges. His visit will continue with further bilateral engagements and a visit to a TNI-operated kitchen under Indonesia’s Free Nutritious Meals Programme (Makanan Bergizi Gratis).
