Singapore’s Permanent Secretary for Defence joins regional counterparts in Johor for a strategic dialogue on security cooperation.
Singapore, 26 September 2025 – Permanent Secretary for Defence, Mr Chan Heng Kee, attended the ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting (ADSOM) on 24 September and the ADSOM-Plus on 25 September in Johor, Malaysia. The meetings were chaired by Malaysia as ASEAN Chair, under the theme “ASEAN Unity for Security and Prosperity.”

The two sessions served as platforms for dialogue on pressing regional security challenges, particularly in the context of a fragmented and uncertain global order. Senior officials discussed practical cooperation initiatives aimed at enhancing ASEAN’s collective resilience and fostering stability in the Asia-Pacific.

On the sidelines of ADSOM and ADSOM-Plus, Mr Chan engaged in bilateral exchanges with Malaysia’s Secretary General of Defence, Datuk Lokman Hakim Bin Ali, as well as counterparts from Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand, the Philippines, and the United States. These discussions underscored Singapore’s commitment to advancing defence cooperation and strengthening multilateral ties.
The ADSOM and ADSOM-Plus also laid the groundwork for the upcoming ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and ADMM-Plus, scheduled for October 2025.
