SINGAPORE, 15 November 2025 – National Gallery Singapore officially launched its 10th anniversary celebrations with a vibrant and community-led Birthday Bash held this morning. Designed “for the people, and made possible with the people,” the event brought together visitors of all ages for a lively morning of art, connection, and celebration.

The festivities opened with the Gallery’s largest-ever cake display by a cultural institution: Gallery Turns 10: Celebrating with Cake. Featuring more than 70 cakes contributed by nearly 30 local bakeries, the display united well-loved home-grown brands with rising talents from Singapore’s baking scene. Guests, staff, and partners gathered for a joyful birthday moment surrounded by a colourful array of cakes, music, and activities.

Dr Eugene Tan, CEO and Director of National Gallery Singapore, reflected on the institution’s journey: “In just ten years, the Gallery has transformed from a bold idea into a cultural landmark that belongs to the people. Every visitor, artist, and community that has engaged with the Gallery has shaped its story, proving that art is not only about what hangs on our walls but about the connections it sparks among people.” He added that the anniversary marks both a celebration and a renewed commitment to champion Singaporean and Southeast Asian art on the global stage.

Throughout the day, visitors enjoyed a range of specially curated activities. Families indulged in cakes and complimentary Milo from the iconic Milo truck, while children took part in the Still Life Birthday Cakes drop-in activity. Art enthusiasts joined Artsplaining: 10th Anniversary Edition with Liu Ling Ling, who shared her personal reflections on artworks showcased in Singapore Stories: Pathways and Detours in Art. The Gallery also saw enthusiastic crowds taking advantage of free entry to all exhibitions, including the newly launched Into the Modern: Impressionism from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

The celebrations continue throughout the weekend, with extended opening hours from 10am to 10pm. While ticketed programmes have sold out, the public is invited to join an array of free activities such as Sketch Chapter: 10th Anniversary Edition, Gallery Rave: Day Edition by Exposure Therapy, nostalgic food carts serving traditional treats, and the Birthday Bash Market where ten partners showcase exclusive 10th anniversary merchandise. All ongoing exhibitions—more than ten in total—remain free for all visitors, offering a festive and accessible cultural weekend.
