
Reception aboard H.T.M.S. Angthong highlights shared maritime heritage and deepening naval ties between Thailand and Singapore
On 9 April 2026, Mrs. Suwannee Arunsawadiwong, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore, attended a reception aboard H.T.M.S. Angthong at Changi Naval Base. The event marked the occasion of H.T.M.S. Angthong and H.T.M.S. Prachuap Khiri Khan bringing naval cadets to Singapore as part of their sea training exercise.

The ceremony was presided over by Rear Admiral Chalit Buathong of the Royal Thai Navy, Commander of the Royal Thai Naval Cadet Training Unit. The programme underscored the importance of practical sea training in developing the next generation of naval officers and strengthening professional naval education.
During the opening ceremony, the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. delivered remarks highlighting the significance of the visit to Singapore. She noted that the cadets were able to learn about the history of H.T.M.S. Angthong, which was built in Singapore, and gain deeper appreciation of Singapore’s strategic role as a key maritime hub in the region.
The visit also facilitated exchanges between the Royal Thai Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy, fostering greater mutual understanding and reinforcing longstanding professional ties. Both sides reaffirmed the importance of continued cooperation in addressing evolving maritime security challenges and enhancing regional stability.
