President Tharman Shanmugaratnam commenced a Working Visit to the United Kingdom from 11 to 19 June 2026, aimed at strengthening exchanges with academic institutions, policymakers, and thought leaders while advancing discussions on sustainability, governance, and global development. The visit includes a series of engagements in London and Oxford, as well as meetings with key stakeholders from government, academia, and the media.

As part of the programme, President Tharman is scheduled to deliver a Special Address at the University of Oxford hosted by the Blavatnik School of Government. He will also participate in the inaugural conference of the London School of Economics and Political Science’s Global School of Sustainability, where discussions will focus on global sustainability challenges and opportunities for international cooperation.

The Working Visit includes engagements with members of the House of Lords, as well as meetings with academic experts, think tank representatives, and media thought leaders. These discussions are expected to cover a broad range of issues, including governance, economic developments, sustainability, and global affairs.

President Tharman is accompanied by officials from Singapore’s Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment and the President’s Office, reflecting the importance of sustainability and international collaboration as key themes of the visit.

During his stay in London, the Singapore High Commission in London and Embassy to Ireland and Iceland hosted President Tharman at the official residence. The gathering provided an opportunity for Singapore-based officials and staff to exchange views with the President on developments in the United Kingdom, including trends in British society, the economy, and politics.
