Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup announced on June 28, 2026, that Malaysia will host the ASEAN Mineral Investment Forum (AMIF) 2026 in Kuala Lumpur this November, aligning with its ASEAN mineral cooperation chairmanship. Speaking at the World Mining Congress 2026 in Lima, Kurup said the forum will gather policymakers, investors and experts to address critical minerals, sustainable practices, investment facilitation and downstream value‑addition, promoting resilient supply chains and regional high‑value industries. “Resilient mineral supply chains require international cooperation,” he stated, affirming Malaysia’s support for transparent collaboration frameworks.

Kurup noted his Lima participation raised Malaysia’s profile in global critical mineral and supply chain security discussions. The ministerial roundtable, involving ministers and industry leaders, agreed that critical mineral demand will rise with green technologies, EVs and AI. Participants, as Kurup reported, concurred that producer nations should prioritise downstream processing to maximise economic returns while protecting the environment. They also called for efficient regulations, faster licensing and community engagement to boost investor confidence, alongside leveraging AI, automation and digital geological data for operational efficiency.
