STMicroelectronics and the National University of Singapore (NUS) have launched the four-year ST–NUS HELIX Corporate Lab, a research initiative focused on advancing next-generation edge AI technologies.

Supported under Singapore’s Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2025 plan, the Corporate Lab brings together NUS and ST expertise in AI algorithms, accelerator architectures, low-power memory systems, circuit design, silicon technologies and application development.

The lab was officially launched by Senior Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth and Trade and Industry Low Yen Ling. She said HELIX would strengthen Singapore’s capabilities at the convergence of semiconductors and AI, while helping translate research into industry innovation and developing talent.

NUS President Professor Tan Eng Chye said the partnership demonstrated the value of industry-academia collaboration in translating research into innovation. ST Executive Vice President Laurent Malier highlighted the company’s semiconductor capabilities and said HELIX would provide a foundation for developing new AI computing technologies and scalable semiconductor solutions.

HELIX will focus on embodied AI and edge computing, with research spanning AI models and system architecture to memory systems, circuit design, chip integration and silicon implementation. The initiative will also provide opportunities for students, researchers and engineers to work on industry-relevant projects and contribute to Singapore’s semiconductor and AI ecosystem.
