Singapore Red Cross supports Nepal flood relief as search, rescue and humanitarian operations continue.
The Singapore Red Cross (SRC) has pledged S$50,000 in humanitarian aid to support immediate relief for communities affected by devastating flash floods that struck near the Nepal-China border on 26 August 2026.
The floods caused widespread destruction across northern Nepal and China’s Xizang/Tibet region, damaging homes, roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure. In Rasuwa district, the damage has made some communities difficult to reach, complicating efforts to deliver assistance and conduct search and rescue operations.
The SRC will support Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement partners in their response in Nepal. The partners will provide essential relief, including drinking water, tarpaulins, blankets, sleeping mats, first aid kits and body bags.
The Nepal Red Cross Society has deployed teams and mobilised additional emergency personnel and volunteers to strengthen the response. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has also released nearly CHF 1 million in emergency funding and launched a CHF 25 million Emergency Appeal.
Mr Benjamin William, Secretary-General and CEO of the Singapore Red Cross, expressed his condolences to families who have lost loved ones and his solidarity with affected communities.
“We extend our deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones, and our thoughts are with communities affected by the disaster. The devastating situation continues to unfold – over a thousand people are missing, many thousands of families are affected, and livelihoods have been severely disrupted.”
Mr William added that critical infrastructure has suffered severe damage, making it difficult to reach some communities, while further flooding remains a concern. He said the SRC is closely monitoring the situation and stands ready to deploy a team to support partners on the ground.
The disaster has also made it difficult for some families to contact their loved ones. To help reconnect them, the SRC has activated its Restoring Family Links (RFL) service, which assists Singapore residents in locating immediate family members affected by the disaster. People seeking assistance can contact the SRC regardless of nationality by emailing rfl@redcross.sg.
The SRC has also opened its Nepal Floods Appeal, which runs from 28 August to 30 November 2026, to support humanitarian operations and emerging needs among affected communities.

Note: If donations exceed the expenses incurred by the Singapore Red Cross for this specific disaster response, any surplus or unspent funds, after three years from the date of inception of the fund, may be used to prepare for and serve communities affected by other disasters, or to complement or sustain projects undertaken by the SRC to help vulnerable communities affected by disasters.
