SMF and MICCI Southern Region expand business links and cooperation opportunities under JS-SEZ
The Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) hosted a delegation from the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) Southern Region for a business networking session on 25 August 2026. The session brought together MICCI delegates and SMF members to exchange business introductions, explore collaboration opportunities and strengthen connections between businesses in Singapore and Southern Malaysia.
A key development during the session was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between SMF and MICCI Southern Region. The agreement seeks to support closer business linkages between Singapore and Southern Malaysia, including collaboration and opportunities arising from the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).
The networking session provided participating businesses with an opportunity to engage directly, exchange information about their respective activities and identify areas for potential cooperation. The initiative also supports efforts to facilitate business connections between companies operating in Singapore and Southern Malaysia.
SMF President Mr Lennon Tan and MICCI Southern Region Chairman Mr Lee Ting Kiat were among those involved in the engagement. Participating companies contributed to discussions focused on developing business relationships and identifying opportunities for further collaboration.
The MOU signing was held under the theme “Strengthening Partnership, Driving Growth, Building the Future”, reflecting the focus on developing closer links between businesses from both sides.
The engagement also highlighted the role of business chambers and industry associations in facilitating private-sector connections and supporting cross-border business opportunities. With the JS-SEZ providing a framework for closer economic cooperation between Singapore and Johor, SMF and MICCI Southern Region will seek to build on their relationship and facilitate further engagement between businesses.
SMF also expressed its appreciation to Standard Chartered Bank for sponsoring the networking lunch and supporting the business networking session.
The two organisations will continue to build on the connections established through the engagement, with a focus on creating opportunities for businesses from Singapore and Southern Malaysia to connect, exchange ideas and explore potential areas of cooperation.
