Madinah’s urban projects integrate heritage preservation with modern infrastructure and visitor facilities.
Madinah is implementing a series of urban development projects aimed at upgrading historic neighbourhoods, improving residents’ quality of life, enhancing the visitor experience and preserving the city’s architectural identity.
Development work in Al-Mughaisla, Quba, Sayyid Al-Shuhada and surrounding areas seeks to integrate Madinah’s historical and cultural heritage with modern urban and tourism destinations. The projects include improvements to infrastructure and public services, alongside efforts to preserve the character of historic areas.
Located near the Prophet’s Mosque, the Al-Mughaisla revitalisation project is focused on rehabilitating a densely populated historic district while improving its overall liveability. The initiative includes infrastructure and public service upgrades, the removal of visual clutter, and efforts to create local commercial and investment opportunities.
The restored neighbourhood features more than seven cultural destinations, including traditional guesthouses, heritage restaurants and specialty shops offering regional crafts and traditional attire. These facilities combine heritage-inspired hospitality with contemporary culinary concepts and community spaces.
According to a sustainable development report by the Madinah Region Development Authority, the regeneration initiatives support sustainability and heritage preservation objectives. The projects promote mixed-use development, job creation and social inclusion while contributing to the renewal of historic areas as urban centres.
Through these initiatives, Madinah’s historic neighbourhoods are being developed with consideration for both their cultural heritage and contemporary urban needs, while creating spaces for residents, visitors and local businesses.
