Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), Satvinder Singh, undertook a consultative visit to Singapore on 15 October 2026 to discuss preparations for the country’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2027. During the visit, he called on Minister of State Gan Siow Huang and met officials from 10 ministries and agencies to discuss proposed economic priorities and implementation milestones for Singapore’s upcoming chairmanship.
The consultations focused on preparations for the economic pillar of Singapore’s ASEAN Chairmanship, including the proposed Priority Economic Deliverables and Annual Milestone Deliverables. The discussions aimed to advance ASEAN economic integration, align the proposed initiatives with the AEC Strategic Plan 2026–2030, and coordinate preparations for their implementation.
During his visit, DSG Satvinder Singh met with officials representing 10 Singapore ministries and agencies to exchange views on the priorities and work required to support the economic pillar. The consultations provided an opportunity to discuss Singapore’s proposed deliverables and their alignment with ASEAN’s broader economic objectives for the 2026–2030 period.

The AEC Strategic Plan 2026–2030 serves as the framework referenced in the discussions to guide the proposed economic deliverables. Aligning Singapore’s priorities with the plan was a key focus of the consultations, alongside coordination to support the delivery of the proposed initiatives during its 2027 chairmanship.
DSG Satvinder Singh also reaffirmed the ASEAN Secretariat’s readiness to support Singapore in preparing for its role as ASEAN Chair. The Secretariat’s support will contribute to preparations for the economic pillar and the implementation of the proposed deliverables.
Singapore’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2027 will coincide with ASEAN’s 60th anniversary. Preparations for the chairmanship include defining priorities and milestones for the economic pillar, with the consultative visit providing a platform for discussions between the ASEAN Secretariat and Singapore officials.
The visit underscored the importance of advance planning, alignment with the AEC Strategic Plan 2026–2030 and coordination among relevant ministries and agencies as Singapore prepares to lead ASEAN’s work in 2027.
