Mongolia hosts the 24th Informal ASEM Seminar on Human Rights, gathering international representatives to discuss the future of human rights protection across national, regional, and global levels.

The 24th Informal Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Seminar on Human Rights has officially commenced in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Centred on the theme “The Future of Human Rights: National, Regional, and Global Levels,” the seminar serves as a critical platform for cross-continental dialogue. The multi-day event aims to assess current challenges, forecast future trends, and strengthen collaborative frameworks for human rights protection between Asian and European nations.

The seminar brings together representatives from over 50 countries, encompassing a diverse array of stakeholders. Attendees include government officials, members of international organisations, academic researchers, and civil society practitioners. Through dedicated working groups and plenary sessions, participants are exchanging vital insights and exploring practical steps to enhance existing human rights systems.

Mongolia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, G. Amartuvshin, delivered the keynote address during the opening ceremony. In his speech, he underscored Mongolia’s steadfast commitment to the principles of democracy, human rights, and freedom, noting that these values have been deeply enshrined in the nation’s 1992 Constitution. He further highlighted Mongolia’s continuous efforts to fortify its national legal and institutional frameworks to better safeguard its citizens.

Deputy Minister Amartuvshin also emphasised needed role of international cooperation and mutual understanding in the global promotion of human rights. He stressed that expanding joint experiences and fostering open dialogue between Asian and European countries are essential strategies for addressing complex contemporary challenges.

By hosting this prominent seminar, Mongolia reinforces its position as an active participant in global human rights advocacy. The event not only facilitates essential dialogue and mutual understanding across the ASEM network but also drives the search for shared, forward-looking solutions to the world’s most pressing human rights issues.
