The meeting also adopted the 20th ADMM Joint Statement commemorating the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, alongside the Manila Joint Declaration on the 20th ADMM. The declarations underscored ASEAN defence establishments’ commitment to constructive strategic dialogue and practical cooperation among member states and ADMM-Plus partners to promote peace, security and stability in the region.

The ADMM held separate informal meetings with defence ministers from the United States and Japan to discuss further cooperation in areas of common interest. Participants acknowledged the contributions of both countries to the ADMM.

During the ASEAN-US Informal Meeting, Minister Chan expressed appreciation for the United States’ longstanding engagement with the ADMM. He also reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment, as incoming ADMM Chair in 2027, to facilitate US engagement with ASEAN during the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-US Dialogue Relations. This would include supporting the development of an ASEAN-US framework for defence cooperation.

At the ASEAN-Japan Informal Meeting, Minister Chan expressed Singapore’s continued support for deeper defence relations with Japan. Singapore currently serves as the country coordinator for ASEAN-Japan Dialogue Relations.

Minister Chan also held bilateral meetings with representatives from Timor-Leste, the Philippines, Laos, the United States and India.
