ASEAN and the United Nations continue to strengthen their collaboration and partnership between ASEAN and the United Nations with dialogues and meetings at various levels on a range of issues.

Michael Tene, Deputy Secretary-General (DSG) of the ASEAN Political-Security Community, recently met with the United Nations (UN) Assistant Secretary-General Khaled Khiari. Khiari is part of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations in the UN. The purpose of the meeting was likely to discuss matters related to political and security issues in the ASEAN region, which includes topics such as terrorism, border disputes, and regional conflicts.

At the same time, the DSG for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, Ekkaphab Phanthavong, had a meeting with UN Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator in the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Joyce Msuya. The focus of this meeting may have been on matters related to social and cultural issues in the ASEAN region, such as human rights, disaster management, and public health.

These meetings reflect the ongoing collaboration and partnership between ASEAN and the United Nations. The ASEAN Secretariat and the UN have a long-standing relationship, and work together on a range of issues related to peace, security, development, and human rights in the ASEAN region. Meetings like these are important for fostering cooperation and dialogue between the two organizations and ensuring that they work together effectively to address the challenges faced by the ASEAN region.
