Dr Maliki bin Osman, Singapore’s Second Minister for Foreign Affairs, visited Malaysia to strengthen ties and explore new areas of cooperation. He met with leaders from Kelantan and Terengganu, discussed education and infrastructure development, and learned about Kelantan’s famous batik.
Dr Maliki bin Osman, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Second Minister for Education, has made a working visit to Kelantan and Terengganu, Malaysia from 15 to 19 April 2023. The visit aimed to strengthen Singapore’s longstanding relations with Malaysian states and explore new areas of cooperation.
During his visit to Kelantan, Minister Maliki was granted an audience with the Tengku Mahkota of Kelantan, His Royal Highness Dr Muhammad Fa-Iz Petra Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Ismail Petra, and hosted a buka puasa by Kelantan State Executive Councillor for Education, Higher Education Science and Technology Datuk Dr Fadzli Hassan and his colleagues. Minister Maliki also had separate meetings with Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Asyraf Wajdi, PPBM Kelantan Chief Kamarudin Md Nor, and other leaders in the state.
The Minister also visited the Institut Pemikiran Tok Guru, where he met with Dato Johari Mat and Dato’ Hajah Siti Zailah, and South Kelantan Development Authority Chairman Nik Abduh. He was also hosted to a buka puasa by Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad Chairman Datuk Husam Musa.
In addition to meetings with government officials, Minister Maliki engaged with local students at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu and visited a workshop for one of Kelantan’s most famous products, Kelantan Batik. The Minister had very good discussions on potential cooperation in education, investments, human resource and infrastructure development, urban planning, and agriculture.
Overall, the Minister expressed his gratitude to the Kelantan state government and people for their hospitality and looks forward to visiting Terengganu.
