Officials from Singapore and Saudi Arabia reaffirm strong bilateral relations and explore opportunities in connectivity, digital economy, and industry
SINGAPORE’S Second Minister for Trade and Industry, Dr. Tan See Leng, co-chaired the third Saudi Arabia-Singapore Joint Committee (SSJC) Ministerial Meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistic Services, Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al Jasser. The meeting, held in Saudi Arabia, emphasized the robust bilateral relations between the two countries and highlighted the potential for collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including connectivity, digital economy, innovation, energy, and industry.
Minister Tan expressed his satisfaction with the growing partnership, stating, “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of Singapore’s key trading partners in the Middle East, and there are plentiful opportunities in the market for our companies. We will continue to work closely to identify key opportunities for both our countries’ economic growth.”
In 2022, bilateral trade in goods between Singapore and KSA reached S$14.1 billion, marking a notable fifty percent year-on-year increase. This surge underscores the flourishing economic relations between the two nations. KSA emerged as Singapore’s second-largest trading partner in the Middle East and secured its position as the 20th largest trading partner globally.
On the sidelines of the SSJC, Minister Tan presided over the signing of seven Government and commercial Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), further solidifying the collaborative efforts between the two countries.
Minister Tan’s participation in this meeting is part of the delegation accompanying Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on his Official Visit to KSA and the United Arab Emirates, scheduled from 17 to 22 October 2023.
