Renowned Filmmakers and Industry Veterans to Judge International Films at 54th IFFI in Goa
Renowned filmmakers, cinematographers, and film producers from around the world have been selected as the International Jury for the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) to adjudicate the International Competition and the Best Debut Feature Film of a Director Award. This year, the Festival received an unprecedented 2926 entries from 105 countries.
The ‘INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION’ category features a curated selection of 15 highly acclaimed feature films spanning various genres, showcasing the evolving aesthetics and political themes in filmmaking, as envisioned by both seasoned masters and emerging voices. The International Jury will determine the recipient of the prestigious Best Film Award, which includes the Golden Peacock, a monetary component of 40 Lakh INR, and certificates for the Director and Producer.
In addition to the Best Film, the Jury will also confer awards in the categories of Best Director, Best Actor (Male), Best Actor (Female), and Special Jury Prize.
The ‘COMPETITION FOR BEST DEBUT FEATURE FILM OF A DIRECTOR’ presents a collection of fiction feature debuts that offer insight into the creative visions of the next generation of filmmakers. Seven debutants will vie for the coveted Silver Peacock, along with a prize of 10 Lakh INR and a certificate.
The members of the International Jury represent various essential facets of filmmaking:
- Mr. Shekhar Kapur (Filmmaker) – Chairman of the Jury, a distinguished filmmaker, actor, narrator, and producer with a rich array of awards and accolades to his name.
- Mr. José Luis Alcaine (Cinematographer) – Noted for his pioneering use of fluorescent lighting in cinematography, with notable works including Academy Award-winning film “Belle Époque.”
- Mr. Jerome Paillard (Film Producer & Ex-head of Film Market) – A veteran of film production and former executive director of the Marché du Film at Festival de Cannes.
- Ms. Catherine Dussart (Film Producer) – Renowned for her extensive portfolio of film productions across numerous countries, including award-winning works.
- Ms. Helen Leake (Film Producer) – A respected creative producer from Australia, known for her contributions to acclaimed films.
The 54th IFFI is scheduled to take place from November 20 to 28, 2023, in the scenic state of Goa. It will be a gathering of international and national film industry luminaries, as well as thousands of cinephiles, making it the largest celebration of world cinema in South Asia.
