India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar visited Singapore from 18th to 20th October 2023 and had several bilateral engagements. He met President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and senior members of the Singapore cabinet for a wide range of discussions.

India’s external Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr S. Jaishankar had several bilateral engagements with the leadership and senior Ministers of the Cabinet during his 3-day visit to Singapore from 18th to 20th October 2023. EAM called on Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of Singapore and congratulated him on his recent election victory. EAM also paid a call on Mr. Lawrence Wong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance. Both exchanged views on deepening engagement in the identified pillars of our cooperation viz. Fintech, Digitalization, Green economy, Skills development and Food security. EAM also met Mr. Teo Chee Hean, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security.

EAM had a comprehensive discussion with Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister of Foreign Affairs on bilateral and global issues of mutual interest. He also met Dr. Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Defence. During their talks, both acknowledged the close bilateral defence engagement and committed to take it forward.

EAM had a productive meeting with Mr. Gan Kim Yong, Minister of Trade & Industry, to discuss new domains of cooperation. He also met Mr. K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law to exchange views on strengthening bilateral partnership.

India’s EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar’s also chaired the Regional Conference of India’s ASEAN and East Asia Ambassadors. EAM Dr Jaishankar tweeted in his ‘X’ account, “Our deliberations took stock of developments in the region and assessed their implications for India.” Singapore’s Minister of Defence Dr Ng also addressed India’s regional heads of mission at the conference.

Dr S Jaishankar said the visit presented an opportunity to further deepen the Strategic Partnership between India and Singapore.
