Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig meets with Ms. Veerle Nouwens to discuss the upcoming International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Shangri-La Dialogue and Asia-Pacific security

ON 6 March 2024, Philippine Ambassador to Singapore H.E Medardo G. Macaraig met at her office with Ms. Veerle Nouwens, the new Executive Director of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) – Asia. Ms. Nouwens is a key figure in organizing the annual IISS Shangri-La Dialogue, Asia Pacific’s premier security and defense forum, and the Shangri-La Sherpa Meeting, held every January.

Ms. Nouwens also leads Singapore’s growing IISS research team, focusing on the Asia-Pacific region, and contributes to IISS publications. The IISS Asia Office was opened in 2004 to facilitate the organization of the annual Shangri-La Dialogue.

In related news, H.E. Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., President of the Republic of the Philippines, is set to deliver the keynote address at the Opening Dinner of the 21st IISS Shangri-La Dialogue, scheduled to run from 31 May to 2 June 2024.
