Singapore’s Foreign Minister Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan’s two-day visit to Jordan emphasizes mutual interests in humanitarian assistance and broadens cooperation.
During a two-day working visit from 16 to 17 March 2024, Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, met with his Jordanian counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, in Amman, Jordan. The visit highlighted the solid bilateral relations between Singapore and Jordan, particularly their collaborative efforts in providing humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
In their meeting, Minister Balakrishnan expressed gratitude for Jordan’s support in facilitating Singapore’s humanitarian initiatives in Gaza. Both ministers reflected on the significance of their countries’ strong bilateral relationship, which has been instrumental in organizing the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s (RSAF) ongoing humanitarian aid mission to Gaza. They underscored the urgent need for a humanitarian ceasefire and discussed expanding channels for delivering aid to Gaza.
Furthermore, the ministers celebrated the positive outcomes of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein Bin Abdullah II’s official visit to Singapore in January 2024. They expressed enthusiasm for fostering stronger and deeper cooperation between the two nations, particularly in areas such as capacity building, technical and vocational education and training, and enhancing business-to-business connections.
This visit marks a significant step in strengthening the ties between Singapore and Jordan, with both countries looking forward to increased collaboration and mutual support in humanitarian efforts and other fields of interest.
