Singapore and China Discuss Strengthening Economic Relations and Technological Cooperation in Beijing
During his official visit to the People’s Republic of China from April 7 to April 12, 2024, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies, Heng Swee Keat, engaged in productive discussions with key Chinese officials in Beijing. Deputy Prime Minister Heng met with Vice Premier He Lifeng and Minister for Science and Technology Yin Hejun to enhance bilateral ties between the two nations.
In his meeting with Vice Premier He, Deputy Prime Minister Heng addressed the positive developments in trade and investment between Singapore and China. They explored avenues to bolster economic relationships, emphasizing the need to improve financial connectivity and increase cross-border financial flows. The discussions also covered China’s economic priorities and shared concerns about regional and international financial stability.
Following this, Deputy Prime Minister Heng and Minister Yin reviewed the successful collaboration in science and technology, particularly in sustainable development, public healthcare, and addressing challenges associated with an ageing population. Both leaders also discussed promoting green development and the ethical advancement of artificial intelligence.
Deputy Prime Minister Heng is scheduled to continue his visit in Shenzhen, where he will meet local leaders and explore local businesses, further demonstrating the commitment to strengthening Singapore-China relations.
