Officials and technical staff from the Philippine Congress convene in Singapore for an International Learning Course on Public Policy and Public Sector Leadership, fostering bilateral ties and knowledge exchange.

SINGAPORE, 23 April 2024 – Approximately 30 delegates from the Philippines, including officials and technical staff from the Philippine Senate and House of Representatives, are presently in Singapore to partake in the International Learning Course (ILC) on Public Policy and Public Sector Leadership. Hosted by the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) and the National University of Singapore – Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (NUS-LKYSPP), this weeklong program, from 21 to 26 April 2023, falls under the DAP’s Capability Building on Innovative Leadership for Legislative Staff (CBILLS) Program. The initiative aims to enhance the leadership, management, and technical skills of Philippine Congress members, officers, and staff.

Led by Mission Leader Atty. Czarina Grace Serrano from the Philippine Senate and DAP Vice President of the Center of Governance, Ms. Imelda Caluen, the delegation visited the Philippine Embassy in Singapore on 21 April 2024. During the courtesy call, Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Medardo G. Macaraig highlighted the recent bilateral visit of Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan to the Philippines, showcasing the robust 55-year relationship between the two nations. Ambassador Macaraig encouraged participants to actively engage in knowledge exchange and forge connections to benefit both countries.

Atty. Serrano and Ms. Caluen provided insights into the DAP and its CBILLS program during the courtesy call. Ambassador Macaraig also addressed queries from the delegates regarding the Filipino community in Singapore, bilateral relations with Singapore and other ASEAN countries, and challenges faced by the Embassy and its personnel.
