Sri Lanka High Commission in Singapore organises a successful outreach programme in collaboration with local associations to empower and inform female migrant workers.

On Sunday, 28th April, an outreach program for Sri Lankan female migrant workers took place at Caritas Village, Singapore, with the participation of around 200 attendees. The event aimed to empower and inform migrant workers while fostering a stronger relationship between them and the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore.

Organised by the Sri Lanka High Commission in Singapore, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Business Association of Singapore, the event marked the second of its kind since September 2023. It provided a platform for participants to gain knowledge and support from various stakeholders.

High Commissioner Senarath Dissanayake addressed the attendees, recognizing the significant contribution of the migrant workforce to Sri Lanka’s economy. He emphasised the importance of empowering and ensuring the welfare, safety, and security of Sri Lankan migrant workers in Singapore, with the Labor Section of the High Commission available round the clock for assistance.

Ms. Lakshanthi Fernando, President of the Sri Lanka Business Association, expressed satisfaction with the event’s success and stressed the importance of knowledge dissemination in empowering migrant workers. She represented the principal sponsor organisation, highlighting their commitment to supporting such initiatives.

Mr. Nipuna Thibbutumunuwa, Counsellor and Head of the Labor Section of the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore, emphasised the event’s significance and encouraged participants to gain valuable insights to enhance their lives.

Resource persons from the Ministry of Manpower of Singapore (MoM), Singapore Police Force (SPF), and Foreign Domestic Worker Association for Social Support and Training (FAST) delivered informative presentations, covering various aspects relevant to the participants’ lives and work.

Attendees received certificates of participation endorsed by the High Commission of Sri Lanka and partner agencies in Singapore, including the Singapore Ministry of Manpower (MOM), Singapore Police Force (SPF), and other relevant organisations. The program concluded with a Sri Lankan-style lunch and gift packs for all participants.
