The Republic of Singapore Air Force and the Royal Malaysian Air Force engage in the sixth edition of the SAREX MALSING bilateral Search and Rescue exercise at Kuantan Air Base, Malaysia, enhancing mutual cooperation and professionalism in life-saving operations.

The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) and the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) have commenced the sixth SAREX MALSING, a bilateral Search-and-Rescue Exercise, from May 7 to 15, 2024, at the Kuantan Air Base in Malaysia. This exercise involves RSAF’s H225M and RMAF’s EC725 helicopters, along with their respective SAR aircrew and groundcrew.

The exercise was officially opened on May 8 by Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Lim Seng Wee of the RSAF and Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Farhan bin Ahmad of the RMAF. During the ceremony, LTC Lim highlighted the significance of this annual event in fostering collaboration and enhancing the capabilities of both air forces in conducting complex SAR operations. Lt Col Ahmad echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the exercise’s role in building mutual trust and professionalism.

Participants engaged in rigorous training, including discussions and planning for SAR operations based on a simulated aerial mishap near Pulau Tioman, Malaysia. The training also involved aerial searches and the swift evacuation of simulated casualties for medical treatment.

The closing ceremony, scheduled for May 14, will feature Brigadier-General Ho Kum Luen, Singapore’s Chief of Staff, Air Staff, and Lieutenant-General Datuk Seri Haji Muhamad Norazlan bin Aris RMAF as the officiants.

SAREX MALSING, initiated in 2018, continues to be a cornerstone for advancing defence relations and operational excellence between the two nations. It also complements other bilateral and multilateral engagements under the Five Power Defence Arrangements.
