THE HIGH COMMISSIONER OF SRI LANKA DISCUSSES BILATERAL TRADE OPPORTUNITIES WITH THE NEWLY APPOINTED CEO OF THE SINGAPORE FOOD AGENCY

THE High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Singapore, H.E. Delgahadeniya Dissanayake had a meeting with Mr. Damin Chan, the recently appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) on 8th May 8th 2024 at the SFA.

During the meeting, H.E. Dissanayake congratulated Mr. Chan on his recent appointment and also expressed gratitude to the SFA for sending a team to Sri Lanka, to learn about Sri Lanka’s poultry industry, along with its food safety and animal health regulatory framework.

H.E Dissanayake further explained Sri Lanka’s ability to export an array of agricultural products, including poultry products, rice, fruits, and vegetables to Singapore. He urged SFA support to accelerate the approval process for Sri Lanka’s application to export poultry meat to Singapore.

In response, Mr. Chan conveyed his familiarity with the quality of Sri Lankan agricultural products, gained from the officials’ visit to Sri Lanka. He affirmed the SFA’s commitment to facilitating Sri Lankan exporters in establishing connections with Singaporean food importers. Moreover, Mr. Chan highlighted the potential utilisation of Sri Lankan rice varieties as alternatives for Singaporean consumers.

Assistant Chief Executive Officer of SFA Dr. Abdul Jalil, who spearheaded the SFA delegation to Sri Lanka, emphasised the general compliance of Sri Lankan companies with SFA requirements. He revealed that the SFA had been working closely with Sri Lanka’s Department of Animal Production and Health (DAPH), urging for additional details regarding Sri Lanka’s animal health system. High.E Dissanayake promised continued coordination with the DAPH to provide necessary details.
