Global leaders gather in Singapore to shape the future of liveable and sustainable cities at the World Cities Summit 2024.
Singapore, 6 May 2024 – The World Cities Summit (WCS) 2024 returns for its ninth edition from June 2 to 4 at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre. This biennial event, jointly organized by Singapore’s Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC) and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), convenes global government leaders, industry experts, thought leaders, and academics to address urban issues and enhance city liveability and quality of life.
Since its inception in 2008, the WCS has seen participation from over 250 cities worldwide. The 2022 summit hosted over 2,500 delegates from 56 countries, including 72 ministers, mayors, and city leaders.
WCS 2024 Theme
The theme for WCS 2024 is “Liveable and Sustainable Cities: Rejuvenate, Reinvent, Reimagine.” This theme underscores the need for cities to evolve into smart, resilient, and regenerative entities to address climatic, financial, and societal stresses, ensuring they thrive for current and future generations.
Mr. Hugh Lim, Executive Director of the Centre for Liveable Cities, emphasized the summit’s role in fostering collaboration and innovative urban solutions. “WCS 2024 will delve into the tools, know-hows, and paradigm shifts required for building sustainable, resilient, and liveable cities,” he said.
WCS 2024 Key Highlights
Delegates will engage with the theme across five thematic tracks: Cities for People, Resilient & Regenerative Cities, Smart Cities, Sustainable Financing of Cities, and Future Cities. Each track includes plenaries, in-depth discussion sessions, special convenings, and roundtables organized with strategic partners to foster vibrant and varied discussions.
Key events at WCS 2024 include the WCS Mayors Forum, WCS Young Leaders Symposium, the Lee Kuan Yew World Prize Award Ceremony and Banquet, and an exhibition featuring cities and corporations. Notable exhibits include the Singapore whole-of-government pavilion and booths by Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize laureate cities.
