The Republic of Singapore Navy’s RSS Stalwart led a multinational fleet in a Group Sail from Guam to Hawaii for the RIMPAC Exercise, involving navies from eight countries.
The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) successfully led a Multinational Group Sail (MNGS) from Guam to Hawaii, culminating in preparations for the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise. Held from 14 to 25 June 2024 (Singapore time) in the Pacific Ocean, this MNGS included warships from Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, and the United States.
The RSN’s Formidable-class frigate RSS Stalwart spearheaded the flotilla, which featured the Royal Brunei Navy’s Darussalam-class offshore patrol vessels KDB Darussalam and KDB Darulaman, the Indonesian Navy’s Martadinata-class frigate KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force’s Ōsumi-class amphibious landing ship JS Kunisaki, the Republic of Korea Navy’s Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin-class destroyer ROKS Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin, the Royal Malaysian Navy’s Lekiu-class frigate KD Lekiu, the Royal Netherlands Navy’s De Zeven Provinciën-class frigate HNLMS Tromp, and the United States Navy’s replenishment oiler, USNS Pecos.
Throughout the journey from Guam to Hawaii, the multinational fleet conducted a variety of naval exercises. These drills included manoeuvring and communication exercises, gunnery firings, underway replenishments, anti-submarine warfare training, air medical evacuation, and air defence simulations.
Exercise RIMPAC, hosted biennially by the US Navy, will take place in the waters off Hawaii from 28 June 2024 to 2 August 2024 (Singapore time). This year marks the RSN’s ninth participation in the world’s largest international maritime exercise. Both the multilateral Exercise RIMPAC and the MNGS are crucial for the RSN, providing opportunities to enhance competencies, strengthen interoperability, and deepen professional relationships with other navies.
