Embassy of the Philippines in Singapore, Sentro Rizal Singapore, and Parangal Dance Company to Host Cultural Event on 26 July 2024.
In celebration of National Cultural Consciousness Week, observed from 1 to 7 July by virtue of Proclamation No. 1148 signed by President Ferdinand Marcos on 31 May 1973, the Embassy of the Philippines in Singapore, Sentro Rizal Singapore, and the Parangal Dance Company (PDC) invite everyone to “A Showcase of Philippine Culture through Music and Dance featuring Parangal” on 26 July 2024, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Asia-Europe Foundation, 31 Heng Mui Keng Terrace, Singapore 119595.
Parangal is a Filipino Folk Dance and Music Company based in San Francisco, California, USA, dedicated to paying tribute to Philippine heritage by preserving and promoting ethnic attire, music, and dance through research, workshops, and performances. PDC aims to serve as a bridge, inspiring and connecting Filipinos in the diaspora to their roots to give them a sense of pride and identity while educating diverse communities to foster awareness and appreciation of Philippine culture.
This event is part of the celebration of the 55th anniversary of bilateral relations between the Philippines and Singapore and is supported by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Singapore.
Parangal, composed of Artistic Director Eric Solano and nine other members of the dance group, along with Habbib Mohammad, a Maguindanaon Culture Bearer from Cotabato City, and Nursida Diamson, a Sama Culture Bearer from Tawi-Tawi, will be in Singapore from 25 to 27 July 2024. Their visit is part of a Southeast Asian tour following their participation in the Bojonegoro Thengul International Folklore Festival 2024 in East Java, Indonesia, from 20-24 July 2024.
