Admiral Hu Zhongming’s visit to Singapore highlights deepening naval cooperation and bilateral defense relations between Singapore and China.
Admiral (ADM) Hu Zhongming, Commander of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy, is on an introductory visit to Singapore from August 3 to 5, 2024. During his visit, ADM Hu called on Singapore’s Minister for Defence, Dr. Ng Eng Hen, at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) on August 4. The two leaders discussed regional security developments and ongoing cooperation between their respective navies, including plans for the third edition of Exercise Maritime Cooperation to be held in China later this year.
ADM Hu also met with Chief of Defence Force Vice Admiral Aaron Beng and Chief of Navy Rear Admiral Sean Wat, after inspecting the Guard of Honour at MINDEF. His itinerary included a visit to Changi Naval Base, where he was briefed at the Information Fusion Centre and toured the Republic of Singapore Navy’s (RSN) Formidable-class frigate RSS Supreme and the submarine support and rescue vessel MV Swift Rescue.
The visit of ADM Hu underscores the strong and friendly defense relations between Singapore and China. The RSN and the PLA Navy maintain regular interactions through mutual visits, port calls, and joint training courses, which have contributed to deepening mutual understanding and strengthening ties between personnel from both navies.
