Singapore, 3 September 2024 – Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar Ibrahim Alkhorayef, recently visited the Port of Singapore, recognized as the largest automated port in the world following the completion of all its phases. This visit was a key part of his official trip to Singapore, included in a broader economic tour of East Asia that also covers China.
Accompanied by senior officials from Saudi Arabia, including Dr. Abdullah Alahmari, Assistant Minister for Planning and Development at the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, Eng. Saleh Al-Sulami, Chief Executive Officer of the National Industrial Development Center (NIDC), and Majed Al-Argoubi, Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones, Alkhorayef engaged in discussions with port officials regarding the transfer of expertise. The discussions focused on leveraging Singapore’s advanced port model for handling the world’s largest container ships, the adoption of cutting-edge technologies, and the training of skilled human resources to enhance operations at Saudi ports.
During his visit, Alkhorayef also toured Tuas Port, a significant component of Singapore’s maritime infrastructure, which began operations in 2022 and is expected to be fully completed by 2040. The Tuas Port project, upon completion, will span an area equivalent to approximately 3,300 football fields and feature 66 automated docks extending 26 kilometres to accommodate the largest container ships. The port’s projected throughput is set to reach 65 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
Alkhorayef’s visit to these ports underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to modernizing its port infrastructure by incorporating global best practices and advanced technologies, aiming to enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of its maritime sector.
