Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Singapore, from 4 to 5 September 2024, focused on enhancing India-Singapore relations through high-level meetings and engagements.

Singapore, 5 September 2024 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India concluded a successful official visit to Singapore from 4 to 5 September 2024, at the invitation of Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong. This visit, marking Prime Minister Modi’s fifth trip to Singapore, aimed to deepen bilateral relations between India and Singapore, his last visit being in 2018.

Prime Minister Modi received an official welcome at Parliament House, followed by meetings with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Both Prime Minister Wong and Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong hosted meals in honour of Prime Minister Modi during the visit. Prime Minister Modi also met Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, with whom he discussed strengthening India-Singapore ties and praised Goh’s role in fostering the “India Fever” in Singapore.

A significant aspect of the visit included Prime Minister Modi’s participation in a business roundtable organized by the Singapore Business Federation. During the roundtable, he engaged with prominent Singaporean business leaders and explored collaboration opportunities, especially in the semiconductor industry. Additionally, Modi interacted with students from the India Ready Talent Programme and interns from the Odisha World Skills Center who are gaining experience with Singaporean companies.

A media conference was held at the Shangri-La Hotel with officials from India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to address Prime Minister Modi’s visit and key outcomes. The conference provided insights into India’s strategy for enhancing its ties with Singapore across multiple sectors, including trade, education, and technology.

Prime Minister Modi was accompanied by high-level Indian officials, including Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, underscoring the importance of this diplomatic engagement.
