SSO presents a range of concerts for families, music enthusiasts, and new audiences, featuring renowned guest artists and unique musical experiences
Singapore, 28 October 2024 – The Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) announced a series of diverse performances to close out 2024 and welcome the new year, appealing to classical enthusiasts, families, and those seeking new musical experiences. Kicking off in November, the lineup includes popular programs like the SSO Christmas Concert, family-oriented SSO Concerts for Children, and remarkable performances by the Singapore Symphony Choruses and Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO). Guest artists featured in the season include celebrated violinists James Ehnes and Yu-Chien Benny Tseng, cellist Steven Isserlis, and renowned conductors such as Vasily Petrenko and Stephen Layton.
Families looking for holiday activities can enjoy “A Magical Musical Meander,” part of the SSO Concerts for Children, on November 16-17. This performance, led by conductor Joshua Tan, blends orchestral music with enchanting magic tricks by Hong Kong magician Harry Wong, offering an educational and fun experience for young audiences. Additionally, on November 29-30, the concert “Gloria!” will feature the Singapore Symphony Youth and Children’s Choirs, conducted by Stephen Layton, presenting an evocative mix of Baroque music and Britten’s Ceremony of Carols.
Classical music aficionados can look forward to an all-Beethoven program on November 8-9, starring Canadian violinist James Ehnes performing Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, conducted by Lawrence Renes. December 5-6 will see British conductor Vasily Petrenko return to the SSO with a program featuring Tchaikovsky and Beethoven, as well as de Falla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain with pianist Javier Perianes. Another highlight will be Steven Isserlis’s interpretation of Kabalevsky’s Cello Concerto No. 2 on December 20-21, conducted by Mario Venzago.
For those open to new sounds, the SSO Chamber Series on January 9, 2025, will spotlight lesser-known compositions, and the SSO Organ Series on January 26 offers an introduction to Singapore’s only fully mechanical pipe organ at Victoria Concert Hall. Additionally, the Singapore National Youth Orchestra will present an adventurous program on December 8, conducted by Peter Stark, featuring works by Sibelius, Rautavaara, and Stravinsky.
