HE Madiepetsane Charlotte Lobe joins global energy leaders in Singapore to discuss Asia-Pacific decarbonization and clean energy transitions.
On October 22, 2024, the South African High Commissioner to Singapore, HE Madiepetsane Charlotte Lobe, engaged with leading global figures on Day 2 of the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2024. South Africa, which joined the International Energy Agency (IEA) as an association member in 2018, plays a significant role in African energy markets, holding nearly half of Africa’s electricity capacity and boasting one of the highest electrification rates on the continent.
Held in Singapore, SIEW 2024 convenes top industry leaders and experts worldwide to address pressing issues in energy transformation. This year’s sessions, led by the Singapore-IEA Ministerial Forum, focused on decarbonization strategies and renewable energy solutions, particularly for the Asia-Pacific region. Notable support came from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), which emphasized ambitious goals to triple global renewable capacity by 2030.
Singapore’s Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry, Dr Tan See Leng, addressed the Asia Clean Energy Summit (ACES) on SIEW’s second day, outlining Singapore’s strategies to achieve net-zero emissions. The ACES event emphasized the importance of innovative renewable energy solutions in the region’s clean energy shift. Among its initiatives, Singapore is collaborating with SP Group on a Future Grid Capabilities Roadmap to modernize the power grid for growing energy demands and exploring electric vehicle charging infrastructure with ComfortDelGro to support energy management.
The collective efforts at SIEW 2024 reinforce Singapore’s and South Africa’s commitment to a sustainable and reliable energy future, underscoring their roles as key players in the global energy landscape.
