Rumah Malaysia: A Symbol of Warmth and Hospitality

Do you know what “Rumah” means? In Malay, “Rumah” translates to “house” or “home”, and when paired with “Malaysia”, it becomes “Rumah Malaysia”, the official residence ofthe Malaysian High Commissioner to Singapore.

Located at 350, Jalan Bukit Timah, Singapore 259757, Rumah Malaysia has been a symbol of Malaysian culture, hospitality, and diplomatic presence in the city-state since the 1960s, shortly after Malaysia gained independence. The residence’s architecture reflects traditional Malaysian design, blending colonial and Islamic influences, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

As you step inside, you’re surrounded by vibrant batik and textile displays, showcasing Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage. The residence is also famous for its traditional Malaysian cuisine, including Teh Tarik and Nasi Lemak, which are often served during cultural events and receptions.

Rumah Malaysia hosts various events, from cultural performances, such as traditional dance and music, to diplomatic meetings and receptions. Under the leadership of the current High Commissioner, His Excellency Azfar Bin Mohamad Mustafar, Rumah Malaysia continues to thrive as a hub for cultural exchange and people-to-people diplomacy.

During cultural events and receptions, diplomats can indulge in Malaysia’s mouth-watering cuisine, including iconic dishes like Nasi Lemak, Char Kway Teow, and Roti Canai. They can also experience the country’s rich performing arts, such as traditional dance and music performances. Some notable cultural events hosted at Rumah Malaysia include:

  • Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations;
  • Cultural exhibitions and art displays;
  • Malaysia Day reception;
  • Traditional dance and music performances;
  • Malaysian cuisine showcases.

By experiencing the warmth and richness of Malaysian culture at Rumah Malaysia, ambassadors and diplomats from around the world can:

  • Deepen their understanding of Malaysian customs and traditions;
  • Foster meaningful connections with Malaysian officials and community leaders;
  • Strengthen bilateral ties between Malaysia and their respective countries;
  • Appreciate the diversity and vibrancy of Malaysian culture.

This majestic residence serves as a home away from home for Malaysians in Singapore, fostering a sense of community and belonging. It also symbolizes the strong friendship and cooperation between Malaysia and Singapore, promoting mutual understanding and respect.

Rumah Malaysia’s beautiful gardens and outdoor spaces provide a serene escape from the bustling city, making it an ideal venue for cultural events and gatherings. Whether you are a Malaysian living in Singapore or simply interested in learning more about Malaysian culture, Rumah Malaysia warmly welcomes you to experience its hospitality and warmth.
