Singapore honours outstanding contributions to defence innovation as Dr. Ng Eng Hen presents the Defence Technology Prize to two individuals and four teams.

Singapore, 25 November 2024 – Minister for Defence Dr. Ng Eng Hen honoured exemplary individuals and teams at the prestigious Defence Technology Prize (DTP) Award Ceremony held this afternoon at the DSO Auditorium. Two individuals and four teams were recognised for their significant contributions to the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), enhancing its technological capabilities and readiness.

During his keynote speech, Dr. Ng emphasised the pivotal role of the Defence Technology Community (DTC) in fortifying Singapore’s defence capabilities. He noted how rapid technological advancements, drawn from lessons of ongoing global conflicts, have shortened innovation cycles, urging militaries to adapt swiftly.

Dr Ng stated, “The impact of technological innovations on security is huge and it is manifestly obvious to all of us… We need to continue to be bold and imaginative so that we can surmount every problem that comes our way.” He reiterated the need for evolving innovative defence strategies while maintaining conventional military capabilities to address contemporary threats and future challenges.

Established in 1989, the DTP celebrates individuals and teams driving technological innovation in defence. The award underscores the importance of fostering innovation and achieving breakthroughs that keep Singapore’s defence forces at the cutting edge of global advancements.
