Indonesian Culture Night (ICN) returns in 2025 with a theatrical production that delves deep into the emotional journey of Arya, a young man navigating life’s trials and revelations. Since its inception in 2007, ICN has grown into one of Singapore’s most celebrated cultural events, drawing audiences eager to experience Indonesia’s rich heritage and creative spirit.
This year’s performance, ICN 2025: Arya’s Journey, is set in the 2010s and explores themes of social stigma, grief, and the transformative power of cherishing life’s simple joys. The narrative promises to be a heartfelt exploration of how individuals rise above adversity, intertwining traditional and contemporary Indonesian cultural elements.
Held on Saturday, 15 February 2025, at the School of the Arts (SOTA) Drama Theatre, the production will feature two performances—a matinee at 2:30 PM and an evening show at 7:30 PM. The venue, with a seating capacity of 772, is expected to be packed with local and international attendees eager to immerse themselves in Indonesia’s cultural tapestry.
A hallmark of ICN is its student-driven creativity. From scriptwriting and music composition to choreography and stage design, every aspect is meticulously crafted by students from Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The production highlights Indonesia’s evolving identity, blending modernity with folklore through vibrant costumes, intricate props, dynamic dance routines, and an original musical score.
ICN’s legacy includes memorable productions like Merah Putih: Kembali ke Hati (2008), which highlighted traditional Saman and Kecak dances, and Saujana (2023), which examined contemporary moral dilemmas. Arya’s Journey continues this tradition by offering audiences a visually stunning and emotionally impactful experience.
