
As Singapore embarked on its SG60 celebrations, the Chingay Parade 2025 proved to be a dazzling showcase of the nation’s multicultural vibrancy and collective resilience.
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, along with key government officials, graced the event and delivered his New Year greetings, setting the stage for an unforgettable celebration. The event was also attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps.
Under the theme ‘JOY’, that year’s parade became an exuberant expression of Singapore’s shared experiences and cultural heritage, bringing together over 4,000 performers from 150 organisations. International participation included the Mexican Association in Singapore, the Japanese Association in Singapore and the Liaison Committee of the Vietnamese Community in Singapore (VNAS). Foreign groups included, China – Jin Pu Yingge Dance Youth Troupe, Cambodia – Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC, Indonesia – Jember Fashion Carnaval, Kazakhstan – Shabyt, Malaysia – Leng Suah Chee Diabolo Team and South Korea – Eonnam Traditional Art Troupe

One of the highlights was the SG60 Chingay Lion Float, which symbolized the journey of Singapore from its past into the future. Another significant moment was the announcement of Singapore and Malaysia’s joint nomination of Chingay for the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, marking six decades of close bilateral ties.
As part of SG60’s broader vision to Connect, Care, and Contribute, Chingay encapsulated the very essence of these ideals. The parade wasn’t just about revelry; it was an opportunity for Singaporeans to come together, reaffirm shared values, and contribute to a more cohesive society. The scale of participation—from performers to volunteers—demonstrated the strength of the community and the collective commitment to making Singapore a more vibrant and inclusive home.
